🎄 Holiday Markets in Mississauga
The city is about to sparkle with festive fun as holiday markets pop up in neighbourhoods all across Mississauga. From cozy indoor bazaars to lively outdoor gatherings, local artisans and small businesses are getting ready to help everyone find thoughtful gifts without the rush. It is a lovely chance to explore handmade treasures and enjoy a bit of seasonal magic with friends.
Each market has its own charm, whether it is the warm glow of the Outdoor Christmas Market or the creative spirit of the Cranberry Christmas Market. Even the Last Minute Christmas Market offers a gentle safety net for anyone still hunting for that perfect present. These events make holiday shopping feel easy and meaningful, especially when you know you are supporting neighbours who pour their heart into every creation.
🌿 Big Changes Ahead at Mississauga’s Waterfront
A sweeping new chapter is opening along Mississauga’s shoreline as the Jim Tovey Lakeview Conservation Area gets ready for visitors next spring. The project includes a freshly paved stretch of the Great Lakes Waterfront Trail, two new pedestrian bridges and a raised boardwalk that looks out over Serson Wetland. It is designed to reconnect people with a piece of the lakefront that has been closed off for decades and to create space for wildlife to thrive again.
Locals can get an early look at a public information session on Nov. 27 where project leaders will share how the 64-acre site is taking shape and what new features are coming. Highlights include scenic lookouts, accessible trails, gathering spots and a future link to Lakeview Village. Many are excited about the promontory that will offer sweeping views of the water and skyline, a reminder of how this once industrial space is becoming a true community gem.
🚧 Concerns Grow Over Traffic Hospital
Many of us who drive the Hurontario corridor know how challenging it has been, and now residents are worried things might get harder as two major projects overlap. Ongoing LRT construction has already caused regular lane closures, and now the new Mississauga Hospital build is adding hundreds of daily trucks to the same stretch. Local councillor Dipika Damerla says people in the neighbourhood are understandably anxious.
City staff note that Metrolinx and hospital teams are coordinating closely, and they promise to watch for issues as construction ramps up. Even so, locals who have managed four years of constant LRT work are bracing for more slowdowns. With the new hospital taking shape through the next decade and the Hazel McCallion Line still years from completion, this busy corridor may need extra patience from all of us.

🎬 Polish Film Festival Makes Its Way West

The Ekran Toronto Polish Film Festival is branching out this year, bringing its lineup of Polish and European films to Mississauga and Hamilton for the very first time. With more than 30 films, visiting directors and special events, it is a wonderful chance to experience stories and talent that rarely make their way to local screens in such a rich and curated way.
Mississauga audiences can catch several standout films at the Living Arts Centre, including Franz, which is Poland’s Oscar submission this year. Hamilton gets its own special screening and reception as well. For anyone curious about international cinema or looking for a unique evening out, this expanded festival offers something fresh, welcoming and beautifully different right in our own backyard.
🛣️ Mississauga Moves to Rename a Central Street
A long-standing conversation has resurfaced at city hall as Mississauga looks to rename Duke of York Boulevard in the downtown core. With renewed concerns about its connection to Andrew Mountbatten Windsor, council is preparing to vote on a motion that would start the renaming process right away. Staff would then consult with community groups and residents to choose a name that better reflects the city’s values.
The goal is to remove outdated honours and avoid any association that may cause discomfort to locals or visitors. Ideas are already emerging, including a simple shift to York Boulevard, though nothing is final. If the motion passes, staff will return in February with recommendations and costs. For those who spend time around city hall and the Living Arts Centre, this change could reshape one of the area’s most familiar landmarks.
